One production type was converted into an ELINT operations prototype equipped with the "Grebeshok" system, intended for locating RF transmitters. The equipment was located in a special pod slung under the fuselage with two antennas that could be lowered during operations, similar to what would later be seen on the Mi-8R (Mi-8GR / Mi-8KZA).

It was first spotted by the USMLM in 1970 in East Germany, but it appears that trials started back in 1966.

On the Mil 10, saw some photos of some in south America in Shell Oil colors - heavy lift oil production support.
