Back from the field and clean again after running around in the woodline. I will hopefully finish the tilt mechanism and pylon for the moch up this week-end w/ a possible clip posted tomorrow. Next week-end the CF airframe tail rotor will be re-mounted.....hopefully.

It's a smiley Leela tends to overuse. Represents happy, funny... excitement, I think.

I'll have the TR motor mounted tonight. Sorry...no time to video yet. TR blades and and main rotor mounted as well. It's a garrison week, so I should be able to post updates during the week.

Fabricated a new rotor hub to fit the blades; no issues with balance. Shortened the titanium rotor mast and mounted the hub to the mast with one of the first rubber grommets (upper) that will allow the hub to teeter flex. The blade bending should negate most of the dissymmetry of lift. Tail rotor mounted and wiring for the motor is "rough in" and not yet soldered. New mast bearing will be 11/64". Now I must re solder a new receiver antenna as some one came into my apartment while I was in the field, went through my stuff, pulled the antenna out of the receiver and went through some of my military records. Seems like I can never win. The Apartment maintenance people were in the apartments changing filters. Should have the bearings mounted next week-end or the week-end after, I think I can solder the antenna this week-end. More to follow.

This is one of the reasons I shudder to the thought of myself ever living in an apartment.

Thanks for the update, by the way!

Stingray,

Yep, but it'll get worked out. Already spoke to the leasing office.

The fixed pitch blades are designed to rotate clockwise as seen from above. Like European helos. I just need to reverse the polarity to change the rotatation direction and in so doing the tail rotor had to be flipped to the other side to counter the torque. So, now the tail rotor translational tendency will be to the left, but holding it in a slight oribit should still be enough to allow me to see if it works well forward and aft.

I may have my aerodynamics off, but does a port pusher tail rotor aimed slightly into the main rotor downwash increse efficiency? I ask because the Russians did a similar change to the early pre-production Hind series, but it might be an application that applies to aircraft of it's general weight class.

And I was looking through your build "archives"... where did you get the profile poster to the top left of this photo? Been looking for one of these for a year now.

Travis,

You're right about the tail rotor thing. A number of Sikorsky helos have a cant to the TR. Improves efficiency , stability and some have said increases lift a bit. Not sure about that though...I'm no expert. The poster I found in a hobby shop where I get a few parts from time to time.

Worked on the aluminum mock up this morning. Got it shortened a bit to allow sufficient spacing for the longitudinal lever of the upper airframe to attach to the tilt mech that will be mounted on the lower airfame. Drill battery died so I'll finish the reassembly tonight. Disassembled the gyro/ receiver and sure enough someone pulled out the antenna wire. Not only was the antenna soldered on, but it had clear epoxy applied as well to prevent pulling it from the chip board. I cannot figure out why someone would do that...................maybe it's the same guys behind the "black helicopter conspiracy" ...lol.

I should be ready for another power up soon.....2 to 3 weeks. Hopfully first tethered flight as well. Sorry I'm behind. I want to see it fly or crash as much as everyone else.

Dave

Sorry to hear about the "infiltration" and "sabotage"...biggrin I hope it doesn't happen a second time.

Can't wait for more updates. Keep up the good work, Dave.
