Aerial mines?

Some of the Taran Ta-1 variants come to mind, they were a radio-controlled glide bombs close to what might pass as aerial mines.

No problem, and what a great day for awsome coincidences! I use to draw concepts for such "aerial mines" when I was only 10! Maybe I'll post them later. My fantasy in this case was the concept of "aerial minefields" in which there were thousands of these air mines deployed over a certain airspace to protect against enemy aircraft. Each mine would either hover in one place by means of a rotor in a shroud (or a helium-filled bladder-like container), or can be RC manipulable. They could even be tethered to the ground via anchor like balloons.

Back in World War 2 they used magnetic sea mines that were dropped into the waters by parachutes, but that's all I can think of.

Just to be clear, you're talking about devices such as a floating type of mine, not land/naval mines that are deployed by aircraft, right? If so than I don't think there was ever such a thing. During WWII the US and British navies used barrage balloons to scare away most of the low-flying enemy fighters. I guess those sort of acted as aerial mines.

I forgot that "aerial mine" can refer to a mine dropped by air, but I'm pretty sure Leela meant the hovering type... right?

Right, mines that float in the air like balloons. Yeah, I already knew about aerial mines that are deployed from aircraft but that's not at all what I mean.

i know of some mines that are deployed by are but are not floating mines, they are deployed by french tornados from a drop pod which also carries mines which propel themselves into the ground and when anything gets close, and BOOM there goes the dynamite
